ES1 Hour of Code
Back in August I came upon an idea for students across North America to write their own coded programs, on the computer, The founders of this idea called it The Hour of Code. I registered our class and this week we have been writing our code to guide Elsa (from Disney's Frozen movies) around an ice rink. My students have had so much fun with this concept we will continue to work with computer coding over the rest of the year. This program encourages students to gain spacial awareness and to work with both directional cues as well as determining how many degrees to move the character. I have to admit I have a few whiz kids when it comes to writing computer programs!

We Celebrate the Liturgical Season of Advent!
We have been working on discovering what the four candles of the Advent Wreath mean to us as followers of the Catholic Faith. Students have made their own wreath complete with candles to take home and light with their families in the coming weeks.
Prayer while lighting the Advent candle:Week 2 (purple candle)
O Lord, stir up our hearts that we may prepare for Thy only begotten Son, that through His coming we may be made worthy to serve Thee with pure minds. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Week 1 Purple candle)
As light comes from this candle,
may the blessing of Jesus Christ come to us,
warming our hearts and
brightening our way.
May Christ our Savior bring life
into the darkness of this world,
and to us, as we wait for his coming.
O God, Amen.

Prayer while lighting the Advent candle:
Week 3 (pink candle)
Loving God,
It is growing in my heart:
An awareness and gratitude of your constant love for me;
Like the sun rising in the East
to warm and comfort my life
and to bring new growth.
Thank you for these weeks of prayer.
In the spirit of the season
my waiting, my patience,
feels sacred.
Bless my heart with generosity
and make me ready to receive you.
Amen
As light comes from this candle,
may the blessing of Jesus Christ come to us,
warming our hearts and
brightening our way.
May Christ our Savior bring life
into the darkness of this world,
and to us, as we wait for his coming.

Welcome to my new blog!
We have been looking at our friend the bat. This little guy lives by my front door at home. He comes back every year to see us in the Fall. Students have made their own bat and are now working on writing a paragraph about what they know that is special about our bats in Calgary. Check them out!
Hi everyone Mrs. Wood's classroom has gone digital! We will be posting regular updates on our fun happenings in the ESI room. Check back often.
Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!
